Dr. Nikolay Tikhonov, our Senior Computer Scientist, pioneered the development of the Intelligent Parametric Product Modeling System (IPPMS). The IPPMS is a new basic philosophy in conceptual parametric, object-oriented, design-based, visual prototyping, and fractal homogeneous, parametric networks. This is the "thinking" environment for the process design, control, and discovery which provides a conceptually-oriented knowledge representation and knowledge management approach which is implemented by means of heuristics. This new approach allows rapid, visual thinking prototyping for real-time control strategies using artificial neural networks, fractal algorithms, and homogeneous transformations with a wide variety of learning emanating from genetic algorithms which are created from graphical specifications associated with algebraic notation.

Research on the “Intelligent Parametric Visual Thinking System (IPVTS) as a Paradigm for Control Strategies with Time-Delay in Robotics” is intended to develop better theoretical and practical methods for using virtual reality, image understanding technologies, and conceptual parametric object-oriented design, for control strategies in robotics. It includes algorithms and software based on coordinating and adapting the appropriate virtual reality visual display with the appropriate sensory feedback (force, tactile) for modeling high-level descriptions of the sensing of surfaces, shapes, and textures.
